Powder Room Plans

The blank wall of our powder room has had me stumped for the past year.

Oh no!  Sorry the toilet lid is up :)

Given its location on the main floor, this is the bathroom people use most of the time, Niko and I included.  It's a tiny room, but I want it to be something really interesting and stylish.

Wallpaper was my first thought, but since I know we won't be here forever, I don't want to do anything too permanent that we might have to take down when we try to sell (I know my taste isn't what you might call traditional).

Hanging some framed artwork doesn't have quite the effect I was envisioning, and besides, I want something that will fill the entire wall, so that its reflection in the mirror on the opposite wall will act as artwork itself.

Since reading this post on Little Green Notebook, I have been debating whether or not I have the patience to actually give this a shot.  This is one DIY that scares me a little, I'll admit.  But I've finally decided that its just too cool to not at least try!

This woman is an absolute genius:

It's stickers!!  So unbelievable - who ever thought they could be so chic?

So I've been making some sticker purchases, and some white contact paper is on its way to me as well.  Fingers crossed!

Mirror Mirror...

Such a cheesy title - sorry! :)

So this little wall next to our front door just screams for a mirror.  I tried to fight it, but nothing else has ever looked quite right there.  I've been trolling thrift stores for months looking for something the right size, and finally found this one at Goodwill, painted shabby chic white (barf).  I wasn't immediately enamored with the frame itself, even knowing that it could be painted, but the shape and size were great (as was the $10 pricetag), so I bit the bullet.

Once again, I forgot to take a "Before" pic, but heeeeere's the "After":

It's a little hard to tell from my high-quality photos, but the color is a brownish charcoal - Rustoleum Anodized Bronze, to be exact.  (The windows and doors are black, and I thought it might be a bit much if the mirror was too.)  I am absolutely OBSESSED with the sconces!  They totally make me giggle, especially with the droopy candles (look closely at the last pic).  My brother made the sweeeet console table - it holds our keys, and all the random junk that seems to accumulate as soon as you walk in.

Isn't it funny how sometimes the smallest changes in your home make you inordinately happy?

Are. You. Ready?

Before:

After:

I have to admit, when I first saw them, I was..... disappointed.  Somehow the combo of the charcoal linen and the chair shape just isn't as perfect as I thought it would be.  Maybe it's just the shock of change :) After all, I've had these chairs (in gold velvet form) since college!
