Dinner in DC

We spent last weekend in DC, and had dinner one night at The Federalist.  It was delicious, but I was actually even more bowled over by the decor.  In the interest of not looking like a tool, I didn't take any pictures while we were there, but here's what I could find on the world wide web (which totally do NOT do it justice!):

I love the cement tile, the carpet, and the super-soft grey leather seats.  AND the entire waitstaff wore those ubiquitous Carhartt pants with oxford shirts - so great!

Aaaaand coffee table...

Glass purchased, wood finish freshened up:

I'm experimenting with rug sizes, hence the blue tape.

Not bad.  Especially for the grand total of $45.

"Curtains"

Ever since I painted the window sash in the powder room, that window's been stark naked.  Not that big of a deal in my daily life, but it does look directly onto our deck, and we're going to have a house full of people in a couple weeks, so...

Mom I know you will cringe, but I made these quick curtains last weekend using iron-on hem tape - no sewing involved.

I'm thinking about swapping out the black "hardware" for another finish, just so it doesn't get lost against the window sash.  I like it though!

Navy love

Evidently someone shares my enthusiasm for navy cabinets - yay!  Those kitchen pics are dreamy...

Living room activity

New development...

We bit the bullet and got the IKEA Kivik loveseat/chaise, in the light gray color - so far, so good.  I still need to finish the painting for the wall behind the couch, find a rug, and replace the coffee table (that tiny yellow one is merely temporary).

I found this one for only $5 - just needs glass:

Yippee!

Pretty morning fog

Tiny Arteeest

Did you see this post on MFAMB?  I'm utterly stunned - I can't stop watching this video.

My favorites:

Evidently this kid had a show in New York recently that sold out in a couple of weeks.  And P.S. I'm soooo jealous of her studio!

Kitchen activity

Here's the real reason I've been MIA these past few months - remember this post?  With these Before pictures?

Prepare yourselves...

And the custom woodwork by my bro...

It's kinda hard to tell in the photos, but the window sash and door are matte black, and the base cabinets are deep navy (Benjamin Moore "Polo Blue" to be precise).  The chalkboard panel is black chalkboard paint (duh).

Lots and lots of work, but very worth it.  I still have some minor touchups to do (invisible to anyone but an anal-retentive like me), and some artwork to hang.  But for now I am still reveling in the beauty that is this small but lovely kitchen o' mine.
